TODAY'S FLAG, by Dan and Patricia: Nova Scotia, marking the October 4, 1967 Shag Harbour UFO Incident, when witnesses saw bright lights in the sky disappear into the ocean.

On the evening of October 3, 1967, multiple witnesses in Shag Harbour, on the South Shore near Barrington ...Passage, 260 km southwest of Halifax, reported seeing strange orange lights in the night sky. The lights appeared to float on the water, a half mile from the shore.

Witnesses watched four lights flash in sequence and then dive in a 45-degree angle toward the ocean. Some thought they were witnessing a plane crash. An investigating RCMP officer said he saw the four lights attached to one flying craft he estimated was almost 20 m long. On closer investigation, accompanied by two local police, he reported seeing a yellow light moving on the water, leaving a trail of yellow foam. The light slowly moved into the distance.

The incident was investigated by the RCMP, the Coast Guard and the Canadian Navy and taken seriously as a Cold War air crash, but no evidence of any crash was found. To this day the Shag Harbour incident remains one of Canada's most well-documented Unidentified Flying Object mysteries. It continues to fascinate UFO hunters, conspiracy theorists, mystery lovers and some people who just love the name Shag Harbour.

The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a glow-in-the-dark coin to commemorate the Shag Harbour UFO incident. In Shag Harbour there is the UFO Incident interpretation centre, which has hosted several conferences, and the UFO postcard with the unique Shag Harbour UFO postmark has been a big seller at the Shag Harbour post office.
