Security nightshift at abandoned hospital/u/No_Two_1604

Hey Reddit, I've got a recent experience I wanted to share from working a nightshift at an abandoned hospital, that I'm still trying to make sense of. Despite being a skeptic, something happened that made me quit right after, and I can't shake the eerie feeling.

On this particular night, my co-worker had called in sick, leaving me alone to man the place. Other than that everything was business as usual until later into my shift. I heard a faint "mechanical" noise coming from the basement. My initial reaction was to brush it off as some old pipes or maybe a draft causing something to rattle down there.

I felt compelled to check it out, even though I was mentally chalking it up to some mundane explanation. As I made my way down the stairs, the noise suddenly stopped. Now, I won't lie, I hesitated for a moment before I proceeded further. It wasn't fear, just that odd feeling you get when things don't quite add up.

I entered the basement, and right away, that unsettling vibe hit me. I spotted a room filled with shelves, stacked with a bunch of cardboard boxes with documents inside. I walked around the room, doing my job and investigating the noise. That's when things took a twist.

As I was looking around, I felt a sudden rush behind me. It felt like someone had walked by behind me. I don't know how to explain it but the chill that ran down my spine was unmistakable. I just stood there and didn't turn around. In that moment, I felt an urge to get out of there, not necessarily because I was convinced it was paranormal, but because it was so inexplicable.

And as I headed to the exit, another strange thing occurred. The door, which I had left open when I entered, slammed shut. It wasn't some gentle push of air that closed it, it felt deliberate.

So here I am, sharing this experience with you all. Was it truly paranormal? Just a series of odd coincidences, or maybe an encounter with a trespasser? I honestly can't say for sure, if it was a person I didn't hear any steps or movement. This incident was enough for me to quit that job. I am curious to hear your thoughts on this.
