Unexplained College Experience/u/aldrmn

I've been lurking on this subreddit for a while, as I do love getting into a rabbit hole of paranormal stuff. I've only ever had one weird experience myself, and it's not as flashy as the ones I've been reading here, but wanted to contribute 🙂 also, I don't typically post on reddit at all, so apologies in advance if this is long winded/poorly written lol

This takes place when I attended college, in my first college apartment. Freshmen had to live on campus, but the second year me and 3 other buddies moved into a small, 3 bedroom apartment. And yes, a small apt with four college aged men was a nightmare in its own right. This story only involves me and one other roomate, who we will call Tom.

The layout of the apartment is important - we joked the building was really just one long hallway. The front entrance opened directly into a small living room which would continue into a very long hallway that led to the kitchen. The hallway was where the bedrooms connected. The kitchen also had a back entrance to the building. Entering through the kitchen, you would see the hallway immediately in front of you, with the 3 bedroom doors on the left side of the hallway and a blank wall on the right side.

One day, my parents came to visit - they would bring cheap groceries sometimes and also use it as an excuse to visit the city and hang with me for a bit lol. They would prefer the back entrance in the kitchen as that's where the single parking spot was near.

I didn't mention my parents were visiting to my roomates as it was the middle of the day and they typically have class. This was, fortunately, my off day.

So, walk into the kitchen with my parents - I opened the door so I'm leading. Tom's room is the second room down the hall. Weirdly enough, the light in his room was on. Since the doorway faces the blank wall, on the wall I could see his shadow in his doorway. It looked as if he was standing in the doorway, facing the hallway wall and grasping the top of the doorway with both hands. But just standing there.

However, within a second or two of me entering and seeing his shadow, the light in his room turns off. But I didn't see his shadow move to turn the light off or anything, it just went out.

You might think this should already set off alarm bells in my head, but we were four guys who were single, so my immediate thought was "oh shit, he had someone over in his room, me and my parents surprised him, and he panicked and shut the lights off".

This prompted me to send him a text along the lines of "Hey man, sorry didn't know you were home. I'll steer them away from your room lol". What was also weird, is that although the lights went off, he didn't shut the door to his room. I didnt check to see if Tom responded to my text because i was hanging with my folks. As my parents are fiddling around in the kitchen, I pass his room and quickly close the door, thinking I'm doing him a favor. My parents eventually leave and moment later, TOM walks through the main entrance with stuff from Target.

This prompts me to do what any rational man would do, which is scream "WHAT THE FUCK?" and run to grab a kitchen knife. I search his room with Tom, me frantic and babbling as to what i saw and why i even texted him - he was mainly confused and slightly spooked. Didn't find anyone or anything. Still haven't been able to explain it to this day, but nothing else weird happened in that apartment nor has anything else weird ever happened to me.
