My grandmother told me this story, about her mother. She is not at all spiritual and doesn’t have any other stories like this, so it has always stood out to me. It’s a little long, so please bear with me.
When my great-grandma was a child, she had frequent prophetic dreams. Usually it would be something small like receiving a letter in the mail, or having a specific conversation with a friend. She would have the dream, and within a few days the event would occur.
At the time she lived with her mother, who used a wheelchair, and her grandmother. I believe she also had siblings but they aren’t relevant to the story. Her grandmother (my great-great-great grandmother?) was supposedly a psychic medium herself. Admittedly, I have some doubts about this claim, I have to assume that her grandma didn’t work as a medium professionally due to the time period, but I don’t doubt that she had psychic abilities. Anyway, her grandma was very interested in these dreams, and always took them seriously.
One night she had a dream that was different than the rest. She dreamed that there was a terrible house fire and that they were unable to get her mother out of the home in time, due to difficulties with her wheelchair. She woke up in the middle of the night, crying and inconsolable. She told her grandmother about the dream and she immediately started waking up the rest of the family, telling them to grab as much stuff as they could take with them. They hopped in the car and went to stay with a family friend for the night.
The next day, they come back to check in on the house, and it’s just ashes. Completely burned to the ground. I can’t remember if they ever found the cause of the fire.
As far as I know this was the only big incident that she ever predicted, but I wonder about what else went on in that family. Unfortunately my great grandmother passed away when I was young so I never got a chance to ask her about this story. I have also had a few dreams like this myself (nothing as extreme as a house fire, but still interesting), and I wish I could talk to her about them.
