The Crone, Pt 2: An Explanation/u/Alice_Vickery

If you’d rather not do the research, here’s the skinny: A year ago, the spirit of an old woman caused casual chaos and mildly, but consistently disruption in my house. It seemed like she wanted to communicate, but I didn’t know how.

Onward: As a yoga and meditation teacher, I am well-resourced with spiritual practitioners. I contacted a friend and channeler who has helped me contact my guides and decode past-life messages. Readings with her seem really informal: once she “tunes in,” it’s like a regular conversation, only sometimes she answers with spooky clarity, or steers the discussion in an unlikely direction.

I explained everything and asked for advice, and we opened the session. She understood immediately, perfectly describing the spirit as I’ve experienced her: the imposing figure, the ragged, centuries-old robes, the pale face with its cruel mouth and black, sunken eyes. After a long pause, my friend explained, “You knew this woman in a past life. Sometime around the 1500s, you were her apprentice. Only, ‘apprentice’ is too kind a word. She controlled everything, from when you slept and woke, to whether you left the dank basement of her house. You lived as social outcasts. She guided you in witchcraft, and you often associated with dark energies and entities. Whatever she taught you, she dictated how you used it and it was always for her own gain and sometimes to your detriment. She was not a kind teacher.” Yikes.

I asked why, after all this time, she would visit me now. What did she want? “It’s your turn. She wants to teach you again, to help hone your intuition and divination abilities. She’ll wait until you’re ready. If you’re not interested, she’ll leave if you ask her to.” I absorbed this information while my friend checked in with my guides, who warned against this collaboration. “Trust her with extreme caution,” she qualified, “and clarify your boundaries and intentions if you do allow her to teach you. The dark entities you worked with remember you. Keep your vibration high, or else they’ll attach to you.”

Now, I’ve had dark entities attached to me before (another story for another post), and felt inclined against repeating the experience. In spite of these instincts, I couldn’t shake my curiosity. “Why not try? What could go wrong?” chimed my inner trouble-maker. I decided to give it a think before choosing my way forward. With my friend’s help, I told the old woman that she could stay, but that she needed to stop creeping around my apartment. “Quit spooking the pets and the humans in my home while you wait,” I demanded. We closed the session and I went home to consider my options.

Over the next few days, chaos reigned. Strange noises came from other rooms at all hours. Shadows drifted across the walls and seemed to crawl along the floors. My cat and dog were constantly on edge. My husband and I barely slept, and when we did, we dreamed intense and frightening things. I sometimes spoke aloud to the empty room, “Hey. You agreed to quit this sh!t. You cannot stay if this continues.” Because entities love ultimatums, right? Finally, things settled down, though I could still feel her presence. But, something new: now, whenever I woke at 3:30 am, as I shuffled to the bathroom, I noticed my entire apartment reeked of what I can only describe as intense body odor. Like the stench of one who had not bathed in a looooooong time. Like I imagine most people smelled in the Middle Ages. So now I could… smell her? Nope.

The crone would need to go, but I lacked the energetic resources and the purity of intention to do so with certainty. Luckily, another friend who is a Shaman was in town and agreed to help. At his request, I gathered Florida water, red and white carnations, sandalwood oil, white sage and old newspaper. I didn’t fully appreciate what I was getting into until he used the word ‘exorcism.’

My brain and thumbs are cramping, so I’ll leave off here for now, folks. Just one more part left, I swear. Thanks for reading.
