Metallic roar/screech, heavy wing beats/u/solkitsune_

Hello there!

I’ve been putting off looking into this for a few months now but I can’t stop thinking about it.

I’m 31 (F) and I stay in a town just outside Glasgow, Scotland and back on January 7th this year I had an experience that genuinely freaked me out.

It was very late and I had just got off discord with a few friends it was around 2:30am. So I get off the call and go and check on my pet ferrets and cat to make sure they have plenty of food and water for the night, so as I was milking about the flat(apartment) I heard a very distant screech/roar. The only way to describe it is metallic, like metal on metal but like throaty, idk, but not natural. My cat heard it as well and she got low to the ground before creeping over to the window and having a look about. I was intrigued by what it was so I cracked the window ever so slightly in the chance it happened again. I knew I wasn’t hearing things due to how my cat reacted. So I go about getting stuff sorted and after a few minutes, it happens again, still quite distant but it was louder. My cat hopped off the window ledge and somewhat hastily went into the bedroom. I sat at the window for a little bit listening and not long after I had I heard it again, couldn’t say if it was closer or not. Now I am a smoker and I refuse to smoke indoors for my pets well-being and to not make the place stink, at this point im kind of freaked but it had been a couple hours since I had one so I thought I’ll have one before I turn in for the night. I put on my shoes and head out the back which is like an isolated large rooftop area(it’s not the actual roof, it’s a weird set up)at the rear of the building. So as soon as I light up I hear it again, this time it was very close, my heart is racing but I’m super curious so I walk out a little further towards the railing to have a look around above the building, just the usual dark with the glow of the street lights from the other side of the building. I walk back to my usual spot next to the door and had to relight my cigarette, as I’m doing so I hear it again, this time very loud but not only that but this time it was accompanied by what I can only describe as the sound of heavy beating wings basically somewhere above me. At this point I’m full on flight mode, I drop my cigarette and bolt inside making sure the door was locked behind me. I stood there for a few minutes, processing what the hell just happened, I only heard it once after that but it sounded further away. After collecting myselfI go into my bedroom and my cat is buried under my duvet and not wanting to come out. By the time I sat on my bed it was just shy of 3am and I instantly messaged my friend who I had been on call with to which his response was “lmao”. I know what I heard and I didn’t sleep until the sun was up. I haven’t really spoke about this to anyone but it’s bothered me ever since and although I’ve never experienced it since it really messed with my sleep for the longest time. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Any idea what it could be? It’s honestly left me with questions that until now I’ve been too afraid to ask.
