Chased by the wind/Escape from Muggers Tunnel./u/Lastson0278

So I’m on a roll today, I posted earlier and I’ve been Thinking about this on and off for a while now. This seems like a place I can speak of the things that have happened to me over the years. So we’re going to go back around twenty five years ago, and again this is a moment in my life that’s burned in to my head with cold hard clarity just because it scared me so badly… That night I’d been spending time with my Girlfriend and we’d been out to some sort of function and it resulted in me having to walk her back to her house which was a ways a way from where I lived with my parents. It was well past midnight but the roads were well lit and it was straight forward getting her back to her house. I left her there and said my good nights like the gentleman I am and started walking home. Now this is where it gets sticky. To get to where I lived it’s necessary to go through a tunnel under a bridge that is literally two people wide. It’s poorly lit and if I’m honest, is absolutely terrifying. That tunnel is cold, like bone cold all year round. And people have been murdered there. Plural. Robbed and murdered over the years. So just going through there in daylight is awful. You can actually feel how horrid that place is. So I decided that the detour this particular evening wasn’t worth the hassle and I had a little of the old Dutch courage in me. Three steps in to that tunnel and the cold hit me through my jacket, like enough for me to catch my breath. Half way in and I was sure that there was someone in there behind me to the stage I thought I heard footsteps. Everything in me said turn around but for some reason I wouldn’t? It made no sense at the time but it felt like the right thing to do. In the end just before I reached the staircase I bolted. Don’t ask me why again, I felt like if I didn’t something was going to happen, like I’d spent too long in That damn tunnel. I got to the top of the steps in to the street lamps and literally as soon as I did the wind picked up. Like ridiculously high wind, my jacket whipped up and I had to shield my eyes…. So again, I don’t know if it was panic or instinct but I took off running, and it felt(?) like the wind followed me…. And all the way I felt like something was paying attention to me, like it was following me. I ran as fast as I could for what seemed like an eternity. All the while I kept thinking if I stop it’ll have me, please bear in mind I know that sounds totally irrational and I was nineteen years old. But I got in to my parents house and I locked that door and did not sleep that night. Because I sat there and I listened to the wind all night till morning came…. It really did feel at the time like it was trying to get in to me. To this day, it’s possibly one of the scariest moments of my life….
