My mother died when I was a teenager; the whole experience was terrifying. As a result of medical malpractice, she suffered a major stroke. Mom lived for 14 ghastly months of visiting nurse abuse, paralysis, and aphasia. Just one memory is her and Dad sitting on the couch, his arm around her. It took close to 15 minutes for her to say they don't talk anymore. Oh- another time she needed transfer from her wheelchair to the sofa and I fucking dropped her. The stress had caused an eating disorder, and at the time she weighed 50 lbs more than me. I was living at school, afraid to drop out and come home to care for her. That makes me the worst daughter ever. A few weeks after her death, I dreamed I was walking down the hallway to my bedroom when Mom came floating around the corner. Her head was just below the ceiling, eyes fixed straight ahead, and no part of her moved. She just floated by. My question is, was that my mother? And was it her way of treating me the way I'd treated her?
