My experiences at the Hawthorne Hotel./u/bakedSATAN

I'll start off by saying I'm open minded but fairly skeptical, and was just wondering if anyone experienced anything similar or has an explanation. This happened years ago, but was recently on my mind again. I have two main experiences from staying 2 nights at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, Massachusetts. I was with my, then, girlfriend, now, wife at the time of all incidents. The first thing that kept happening to us was the water in the bathroom would sporadically turn itself on. We would be lying in bed, or just coming back into the room from the bar downstairs, and the shower or sink would be on full blast. The knobs on everything have to be physically turned to shut it all off so it had us scratching our heads to say the least. It ended up freaking my wife out so much that when it happened throughout the night, she woke me up to go turn it off lol. The other weird thing that happened to us, was during the second night as we were trying to get back to our room we took the elevator. We definitely pushed our correct floor number, but for some reason the elevator went down instead of up, and took us to what I have to believe was the basement. The doors opened up and it was a fairly dirty looking floor, short hallway, and a single door with a circular window on it. Not a single light was turned on in the hallway either. We were both freaked out at this point, but curioussity got the better of us and we decided to leave and look through the window. What we saw inside was really really old looking furniture and chairs but it was all so dusty and dirty. My wife jumped and said she saw a shadow move It freaked us out enough to run back to the elevator and spam our floor number again. Thankfully this time it brought us to the correct floor. I don't really believe in many paranormal things, but I don't really have an explanation for what we experienced in that hotel.
