Help! Does this describe any particular paranormal creature or cryptid?/u/Direct_Yogurt8879

A while ago, I had an extremely vivid, partially lucid dream that kept me terrified in bed for hours after waking up. Most of my dreams, even the most odd ones, will eventually be forgotten, or at least the more minute details will fade. This specific one, however, has remained as clear, detailed, and ominous as the moment it was dreamt (a few years ago). I will tell you the entirety of the dream and describe the creature as best I can. Though admittedly, it is difficult, as it is incredibly odd.

It begins as a lucid dream; I am talking with my mother, helping with the gardening, and actively aware that I am making the decisions, though I do not state this out loud. We live in the Piney Woods, so the "back yard" was about 48 acres of uncleared trees/woods. I remember it being bright outside (as if there were no clouds at high noon), and at this point, the woods looked normal; you can see maybe 20 feet inside the tree line before it gets too dense.

My mother calls me around the side of the house to look at something in the corner of the porch. There is a puppy, a slick golden retriever (maybe 3 months old) with beautiful honey-brown eyes. I am immediately taken with this puppy; I can physically feel the giddiness bubbling up in my chest. Turning to my mother to show her my excitement and probably ask if we could keep him (it?), I take my eyes off the puppy.

When I turn back, the puppy is larger, almost adult size but not quite, and how has bright blue eyes. I bend down to let him lick my face and give him lots of love, hoping he'd take a liking to me. At this point, the dream is no longer lucid, though I am too wrapped up in this dog to take any notice. I stand up to ask my mother why there would be a dog here, especially one so well-groomed and seemingly a "family-dog." I took my eyes off him again. When I turn back for the third time, the dog is now grey (think "blue pitbull" gray) but still looks like a slick-coated golden retriever with the same blue eyes.

This finally stirs some alarm in me; I am confused and look back to my mother, taking my eyes off it for a third time. When I look back, the dog is now sitting up on its hind legs. Its legs and body are normal, but its feet, hands, and face are distorted. Its paws were now humanoid, feet too long for a dog, hands long, thin, and ended in huge claws. Focusing on its face, it smiled, widening its now too-large eyes and revealing far too many pointed teeth. It extends a hand towards me, and I have no choice; I am no longer lucid but beginning to panic.

As it begins to shuffle along the porch, I realize it wants to take me into the woods. I don't know how I knew this, it was a strong gut feeling, and I knew it would mean something horrible. I could no longer see into the woods; the sunlight hits the front of the trees, but the light hits nothing else. It is all black. The fear I felt in my body as the creature kept smiling, kept looking into my eyes, was indescribably visceral.

That was when I woke up. I was sweating, breathing hard, and flailing as I still tried to get away from this creature. I was home alone and most certainly had important things to do, but I was rooted to the bed, backed up into the corner. I stayed that way until the feeling left. I have felt many versions of fear, but so far, none have stacked up. Not the kind of panic you feel when looking at the ground from several stories up, not the kind you feel when you see a shadow in the corner of your dark bedroom. It was the innate, primal sense of fear when your brain's sole purpose is survival; no thoughts other than danger, danger, danger...

So, if this describes anything you know of, and I mean anything AT ALL, please let me know. It may just be a weird dream/nightmare, but I don't think that level of fear is normal. It is not a state your brain likes to be in, so I don't see why it would even "test the reaction." I haven't had any similar dreams since, and I hope writing this doesn't incite one.

I appreciate literally every and any information you can provide. THANKS!
