I stayed the night at a motel and something was severely wrong./u/throwaway04012007

Me and my family recently returned to New Zealand to visit family. this was our first time back in 7 years so we planned a road trip up to a place called Rotorua. This is known for natural hot springs and motels. we booked 2 nights in a motel by the name of the 'Coachman Spa Motel'.

We arrived the first day and were very tired from the long drive the day before. This first night seemed very uneventful but we had booked the largest room at the motel which we were told could sleep 20 but we only had 6 of us on the trip. me, my mum, dad, brother, nan and my pop. I felt very alone in the upstairs of the room but despite this i still felt uneasy.

Fast forward to the next night and everyone had gone to sleep. We had a busy day of swimming and walking some nice hilly trails. Everyone had gone to bed and me and my mum decided to have a drink in the living room. The living room opened up to the kitchen-diner combo through a mesh door. Me and my mum were chatting away on the couch when we heard a loud crash come from the kitchen. We were caught off guard and my mum just told me that it was the dishes in the sink crashing. It sounded exactly like this.

That same night, i slept on the spare mattress in my brothers room as i felt uneasy for no apparent reason. Of a night i take 6mg of melatonin which helps me usually sleep right through but this night i woke randomly. I thought nothing of this as it happens from time to time but something was wrong. i lay in my bed and starred at the ceiling. I checked the time and it was about 3:30 in the morning. We had a long drive in the morning so i took another 2mg of melatonin. I wanted to use the bathroom but i had an overwhelming feeling of dread. I lay motionless in my bed unsure of what to do and just observed my surroundings. It was now about 4am and i hid beneath the covers until i passed out of exhaustion.

The next morning my mum came to me and asked me if anything felt off last night. We knew straight away that we had both experienced the same thing. She told me that when we were in the living room drinking that there were no dishes in the sink as she had washed up. My mum was visibly shook and told me she kept quiet as she did not want to alarm me. My mum and dad sleep separately but the had both talked to me that they too woke up around 4am and felt extremely unwelcome and as though they were being observed by another force.

Writing this up now brings genuine shivers down my spine and it has been plaguing my mind recently. Just know that i am not a believer but having my mum and dad tell me the same thing i experienced and the living room incident, i just can not shake that weird feeling.
