Please Help My Husband!/u/Shel-Dorado

Hello! I’ll preface this by saying I’m new to the subreddit, so if this isn’t true best place for my question, just let me know!

It’s kind of a weird situation, so bear with me! We moved into our new house about two and a half years ago. It’s a beautiful house in a nice subdivision with really warm and positive energy. I never felt uncomfortable there.

Last year, I got some bad news about my pregnancy, and I felt a hand squeeze my shoulder. It was so solid that I thought my husband was behind me, but I was alone in a closed room. More recently, when I was crying over my grandpa getting sick, I felt the bed shift as if someone sat on it. It was enough of a shift to wake my newborn up, who was sleeping in the comforter in front of me. Those are the only two experiences I’ve had, and they felt positive, so I didn’t worry about them.

My husband has the opposite problem. Ever since the baby was born three months ago, he’s been having experiences incredibly frequently. Whenever he’s alone (we’re asleep, or at my mom’s) he hears footsteps on the floor above or below him. Doors also keep opening and closing. When he was alone in the house last week, he closed the door to the bedroom to keep the cat out. He woke up to it wide open. Two nights ago, he slept in the bedroom across the hall from our toddler, and left the door open in case that toddler wanted to get in bed with him. He woke up to it closed.

I’ve tried to explain to him that our kid could have closed the door in his sleep, or the dog could have somehow opened it when we were gone, but he’s incredibly spooked. He’d now rather sleep on the couch than in a room with a door, and even then, he’s not sleeping well. So I tried changing tack, and reminded him that whatever is here is probably harmless, or even a positive force. He didn’t like that at all.

My husband grew up in a house with footsteps, moving chairs, and even a full body apparition in his kitchen (I was on the phone with him when he saw it - totally wild). It didn’t seem to bother him much, but he is SO stressed about this. Not sure if it’s getting older, or having kids, or what, but it’s really affecting him. And honestly, his fear is starting to rub off on me. I was never scared in my house before, but now I catch myself flinching at every noise, and watching my kids like a hawk. I was just curious if you had any idea what I could say or do to help him? Thanks in advance!
