TLDR; Odd things have been happening at my work that lead me to believe it may be something paranormal… I’m looking for any input as to what you guys may think about the situation.
I’m gonna preface this post by saying I am a believer in the paranormal and have had paranormal experiences just a few times before in my life. Some weird things have been happening at work recently and I’m not sure what to think of it, if it’s paranormal or not. I guess this is where my post comes in.
I am a female in my 20s and a full time overnight worker at a hotel in my hometown. I’ve been working this position for about 4 months now and have experienced some odd, sometimes unexplainable things happening in the wee hours of the morning. I’m the only employee in the hotel working during my shift and have grown used to keeping my eyes and ears peeled as I’m basically security for the place (along with front desk) and want to make sure my guests are safe.
Now, I truly can’t tell if I’m convincing myself these experiences are paranormal or if they really are paranormal. I’ll list the experiences here:
The drawer at the back desk where I sit and watch the security cameras will open on its own every 5 minutes or so. I assumed it was because the drawer was loose and needed to be tightened. When I asked maintenance if they noticed it happening during the day and could fix it, him and my manager said they’ve never seen it do that. Not convinced this is paranormal but it definitely is odd.
Our TVs in the lobby are kept at no louder than 25/30 volume during the day and are muted at night. One night the TV unmuted itself and was set at 60 volume, startling me as it was loud and abrupt. Happened once and never again. I don’t think my coworkers would raise the volume to 60 before muting it as there’s no reason to. Convinced myself it was just a technological error, but it still left me uneasy.
I once looked down the hall into the kitchen and for a split second thought I saw a man standing there in the kitchen doorway. Did a double take and when I looked back he was gone. Convinced myself I mistook the shelf and boxes for legs and a torso but again, it left me uneasy.
I was preparing breakfast in the kitchen one morning and heard a loud crash in the lobby, as if the large tin chafing dish in the breakfast area had toppled over onto the ground. I rushed out of the kitchen to investigate what had happened, only to see that everything was in its place, nothing had fallen and I saw no one in sight. Couldn’t really come up with a convincing reason for why this happened, still puzzles me.
This morning at 1am, I returned to the back desk after using the restroom and heard a noise in the back hallway coming from the housekeeping/laundry room. I slowly approached and turned on the light to see that one of the large dryers had started itself (2 hours after I started my shift) with the dryer door open. Has never happened since I started working here, and after confirming with my manager it has never happened before. Again, could be explained by a technological error, but it was just SO ODD.
Other things have happened that I can’t remember off the top of my head. I can’t tell if my belief in the paranormal combined with me being completely alone (and sometimes scared) at work has created the idea of these instances being paranormal. What do you guys think?
