Adios Pop we’ll miss you!/u/SeriousSession8976

My grandfather died in September of 1975. At the time me my wife and our 18 month old son were living in NC, So were my parents and siblings.

Grandparents lived in KY, so we had to travel to attend the funeral. Pop died on Sunday, we traveled on Monday, funeral was on Wed or Thu.

At the same time this was going on, my great aunt, dad’s Aunt Ruby who was my Grandmother’s younger sister, was in the hospital, no longer remember why. But part of her treatment was pain meds.

Because my grandfather and Aunt Ruby were really close, they did not tell her about the death or funeral. They were concerned that it would affect her recovery.

The story goes…that after the funeral, her husband, Uncle Frank, dad’s Uncle, went to the hospital to check on her. She was a little loopy, but seemed like she was awake enough to know what was what according to Uncle Frank.

She told Frank that Wes, MY GRANDFATHER, had been there just after lunch. He had come in behind one of the nurses and just stood next to the door. He didn’t talk to her, but he just stood near the door. She dozed off and when she woke up, he was gone.

When Uncle Frank asked if she knew what time that was, she said X soap opera was going off and Y soap opera was coming on. That was about the same time the funeral was going on.

I guess Pop just wanted to tell Aunt Ruby goodbye.
