Recently I started to experience horrible pain in my abdomen. I don't do doctors or hospitals so my plan was to ride it out. A week passed and the pain just got worse. It was the worst pain of my life. Being a former fighter and working as plumber I was very familiar and tolerant of pain. My lifestyle and pain go hand in hand. However this pain was crippling. My families concern and nagging forced me to go to the ER. I was put in a bed in a hallway while they took my blood and ran tests. I went and had a CT scan and was placed back in the hall. I was told my appendix ruptured and basically I was on the verge of dying. A man named Robert who I assumed was a nurse was caring for me. I thought at the time he was giving me extra attention and didn't leave my side. For a busy hospital where I was stuck in a hallway I found this odd. He seemed troubled and worried yet he was very calm and gentle with me. His care was amazing and was very surprising. All the stories I had heard of hospitals and how understaffed they were Robert seemed to be only caring for me. He came over to me one last time and said " It's time we part ways. You are off to the OR". I panicked because my biggest fear was being cut open. Robert placed his hand on my chest and said " Don't worry. It is not your time". I was wheeled off and that was that. After being released from the hospital I was sent home with a folder of information. There was a letter with a phone number to call if you had concerns or ideas on ways the hospital should improve. I decided I would call and give a positive review, especially for Robert. The only name I remembered was his and I had hoped they kept record of the staff caring for me. I told the woman that answered about my experience and told her Robert was exceptional and his name was the only one I knew. She sounded puzzled. She told me there was no Robert on their staff. I said well maybe I got his name wrong. I described what he looked like to her. She said their was no one with that description and I only had a female staff caring for me other than the surgeon. My mind is blown. I have no explanation for it other than a bad reaction to morphine.
