Clicking of a light/power outlet switch heard in a room with nobody in it and the door closed/u/ArmA3_Coyote

I'm currently staying over at my friend's house (there's 3 of us in total) and about 50 minutes ago we all heard about 7-10 distinct clicks that sounded like a switch being flipped with about 4 second intervals between each flip. The sounds came from a room with the door closed and nobody in there (2 of us checked everywhere) and the sounds stopped as soon as we opened the door and stepped inside. We were in the room directly opposite to it.

It's a relatively new house and there was nothing that we saw that might have been causing the sounds. I've got no clue as to whether there's a reasonable (natural) explanation to this or if it could be something supernatural as I've never had anything similar happen before that I can remember. We'd really appreciate some help on figuring out what it might have been.
