I was driving up a hill with two-lane merging at the top, with a single oncoming lane coming downhill. The weather was snowy with some accumulation on the roadside, but some slush and road salty water on the road. I had two slow moving vehicles up ahead which I was not following closely, and another vehicle behind me. The second furthest vehicle ahead of me was at least 100 yards uphill.
Suddenly in my rear view, a fast moving black sedan appeared, in the uphill passing lane. I did not take a close look and the view wasn’t good anyway due to weather. My reaction was to slow a bit and go a little to the right, because I didn’t think this car could safely overtake the next vehicle, let alone both vehicles up ahead before the merge. If something was coming downhill, and he tried to pass both cars, he’d be doing it on a dangerous surface, and would have to thread the needle to get through. As luck would have it, an 18 wheeler appeared at the top of the hill coming down.
I was surprised to see this black car pass me going what looked like 90 mph, and go past the next vehicle, because this meant he would meet the semi on a less than ideal road surface.
Here’s where it got a little weird. The truck meets me and goes down the hill. As I near the top of the hill, I look for this black vehicle, expecting it to be between the vehicle ahead of me, and behind the second vehicle up the road. It is gone.
When I crested the hill, it goes straight for about 1.5 miles. I went left a little to look ahead, and this black car doesn’t appear to be there. I don’t see its taillights. I only see some oncoming headlights.
If he lost control and went into the ditch before meeting the truck, I missed it. All I know is I never saw it again after it passed the car in front of me.
