So today I noticed something strange when I was in the woods. I like to go out mountain biking alone and particularly enjoy the woods near my house. There is a prebuilt track designed for bikes and it can get pretty busy on the weekend so I like to go out in the weekday when everyone is at work. Today as I was cycling down the path I stopped to catch my breath. The first thing I noticed was how quiet it was. Even though I was in a forest, it wasn’t far from main roads. Normally I can hear the rolling tires but today it seemed a lot more stifled. Like I was wearing cheap noise cancelling headphones. It was then when I noticed something strange. About 20 meters ahead of me I saw a birch tree, and next to it was a sort of distortion. The best way to describe it would be like that wobbly effect heat gives off. However there was no fire, smoke or anything out of the ordinary other than the air seemed to be simmering. I stared at the distortion for a while and it started to give me a slight headache.

Intrigued I cycled over to it. Upon arriving the distortion vanished. I got off my bike and touched the side of the birch tree. Nothing strange happened and it felt like a normal tree. There was nothing on the ground other than leaves and sticks. Confused, I continued my cycle although now I felt more drained and my headache remained.

I have always felt a strangeness to nature. A power that I can’t comprehend. I wonder if this has anything to do with it? I will go back out later in the week and see if I can’t see another ‘ripple’.
